The Winter Warmer 2 is a 37.3 mile charity cycle ride in association with Derian House children’s hospice and Winckleys Cafe. On Sunday 7th December 2014, meeting at Winckleys Sandwich and Coffee bar on Winckley St in Preston at 9.30am, riders will depart at around 10.30am and will head out towards Derian House in Chorley. From there, the route then heads through Euxton, Eccleston and Mawdesley to arrive at Rufford Marina for the “café stop”.
Once all riders have re-grouped and are ready to head off, the ride will then return back to Winckleys via Bretherton, Croston, Ulnes Walton, Longton and Penwortham.
A donation/entry fee of £5 is required to participate in the ride. Riders can sign-up on the day or at the bottom of this page. Payments will be taken on the day, this booking page is for us to get an idea of numbers. For the £5 donation, riders will receive their ride number and their first coffee/tea/hot drink from Winckleys free of charge. Upon completion of the Winter Warmer, a commemorative mug will be awarded to all riders.
As mentioned, the total route mileage is 37.3m (60km) and will take place on open roads so an average level of fitness and cycling experience will be needed. Due to the time of the year, and depending on weather conditions on the day, lights and mudguards may be necessary.
The Winter Warmer is strictly NOT A RACE, riders are encouraged to ensure all participants are aware of the route which will be provided as a GPX for anyone with an onboard navigation system. All riders without onboard navigation are advised to read over the route and during the ride, to try and stay with the pack, and make others aware if you’re falling off the back. Certain waypoints will be signposted to remove any confusion during the ride.
GPS, Map and Turn by Turn navigation for the Winter Warmer 2 can be found on the right side of this page.
All remaining mugs that aren’t claimed by riders of the event will also be available for sale at Winckleys Cafe and online at the Deaf Pigeon Shop after the event for anyone who would like to own one. These will be priced at £7 and the money raised will donated straight to Derian House.
